FERC staff has issued a favorable final environmental impact statement (FEIS) for Tennessee Gas Pipeline Co.’s (TGP) Cumberland natural gas pipeline project, clearing the way for its approval by the Commission.

The 32-mile, 30-inch diameter pipeline would provide up to 245,040 Dth/d of new firm transportation service to the Tennessee Valley Authority’s (TVA) Cumberland natural gas combined-cycle power plant.

The 1,450 MW power station is expected to be in operation by 2026, according to TVA. It is replacing the two-unit, coal-fired Cumberland Fossil Plant west of Cumberland City, TN, which is set for retirement. Plans are to take one unit offline by the end of 2026 and the other unit by the end of 2028.
