Renewable power suppliers in the United States will soon gain a Canadian oil export conduit as a customer, according to TC Energy Corp.

As part of its fourth quarter results, the Calgary conglomerate said Tuesday contracts would be awarded before the end of June to U.S. legs of the Keystone oil pipeline system to revamp it as a low-emissions electrically powered pipeline.

The 2,687-mile Keystone conduit delivers 600,000 b/d across Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba in Canada, along with crossing U.S. Midwest states to move oil to Gulf Coast refineries.

The electric pipeline plan started as a greenhouse gas reduction bonus or selling point for TC’s contested and canceled Keystone XL expansion project.
