BP, Shell Discover WWII German Sub in Gulf
Who knows what you will find these days when developing a new pipeline route? BP and Shell Gas Transmission reported late last week that while surveying a route for the proposed Okeanos Gas Pipeline, the companies stumbled across the long-sought wreckage of the German World War II submarine U-166 at the bottom of the Gulf of Mexico. The U-166 was reportedly the only submarine sunk in the Gulf during the war.
Seven Powder River Properties Available Online
Schlumberger subsidiary IndigoPool.com said Thursday it would provide the online marketplace to divest of seven coalbed methane property packages in the Powder River Basin of Wyoming. The project, co-developed by Waterous & Co. and IndigoPool, allows potential buyers to evaluate the properties online.

In just three years, the Burgos Basin in northern Mexico could be producing as much as 1.4 Bcf/d, which would add to the country’s current production level of 4.6 Bcf/d, according to Mexico Energy Minister Ernesto Martens. Of the current total, about 970 MMcf/d already is produced in the massive dry gas basin.

As natural gas demand, spurred by new gas-fired generation, continues to grow within the United States, the country would be wise to look toward Alaska and its northern neighbor Canada for an increased supply from the significant untapped potential that remains along the vast landscape, according to the Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers (CAPP). Supplies from Canada, which currently account for 15% of gas consumption in the United States, have the potential to grow, as long as infrastructure is put in place and regulatory processes are ironed out.

If there was any question remaining that the California crisis would have a negative impact on the electric deregulation progress around the rest of the nation, it has been answered, and the response is ‘yes.’ Three quarters of the utility regulators across the nation polled said that the financial, reliability and political consequences of the California snafu will slow, or even halt, the spread of deregulation to their states, according to a recent national survey created by Standard & Poor’s and conducted by RKS Research & Consulting.
