Carrizo-Private Equity JV Targeting Utica Shale

A newly formed joint venture (JV) of Carrizo Oil & Gas Inc. and Avista Capital Partners has closed its first acquisition: 15,000 net acres in the Utica Shale in eastern Ohio and northwestern Pennsylvania at an average cost of less than $1,500/acre, Carrizo said. The deal is the second announcement from the company in the same week as it strengthens its finances to plow ahead in the shales.

Traders See Retest of $4.00, Yet May Advances

Thanks in part to some kind words for the commodity from the President of the United States, May natural gas futures recovered a hefty chunk of Tuesday’s losses Wednesday as traders sensed a surge past recent highs. However, the move fell short as May added 9.2 cents to $4.355 and June added 9.1 cents to $4.426. May crude oil retreated 52 cents to $104.27/bbl.

FP&L, FGT Fight to the Finish Over Intrastate Pipeline

In the latest exchange in an ongoing war of words between Florida Gas Transmission (FGT) and Florida Power & Light Co. (FP&L), FP&L on Monday said the pipeline’s request for increased transportation rates proved that the state needs increased competition — preferably through FP&L’s proposal to build its own 280-mile intrastate pipeline to move natural gas north to Bradford County from Palm Beach County. According to FGT, the utility’s statement was an attempt to distract customers and regulators from FP&L’s own proposed rate increase and a pending decision on the pipeline proposal.
