Industry Lost in Gas Storage Bermuda Triangle?

The Energy Information Administration (EIA) is attempting to post warning signs to help prevent the gas industry from entering what might be considered the Bermuda Triangle of weekly gas storage levels. There could be changes in EIA’s revisions policy, including using more months of actual data from its monthly national storage survey to come up with a better estimation ratio (see EIA’s recent request for comments in the Federal Register on July 11).

Ramping up for the April 1 kickoff of Michigan’s voluntary choice program in its service area, Michigan Consolidated Gas Co. (MichCon), a subsidiary of DTE Energy, is warning its customers that it is common for natural gas marketers to call and request account and other personal information.

Transportation Notes

After warning of its possibility Tuesday (see Daily GPI, April 4), Sonat said Wednesday it is implementing a Type 5 OFO, effective with Friday’s gas day, due to excess production upstream of its facilities in Logansport, LA. “The quantities currently flowing into the Logansport facilities have decreased very little and the operational problems [with dehydration equipment] have not been alleviated,” Sonat said in its bulletin board posting. Affecting 25 points in the Logansport Field and another 24 in the Joaquin Field, the OFO calls for receipts exceeding 104% of scheduled quantities to be penalized $15/Dth.
