Houston-based Apache Corp. has named John Bedingfield as vice president of worldwide exploration and new ventures. Bedingfield formerly was Apache’s Australia region vice president and managing director. Prior to joining Apache in 1998 Bedingfield worked as a geophysicist at Exxon Co. USA, Esso Production Malaysia, Petronas and Exxon Exploration Co. Apache named John Christmann, who is vice president of business development, as vice president of the new Permian region office to be based in Midland, TX. Christmann joined Apache in 1997 and was production manager of the Gulf Coast region until 2003. Tom Maher, now exploration manager for Apache Egypt Cos., which is based in Cairo, will take over as Australia region vice president and managing director. Maher joined Apache in 1986 and transferred to Cairo in 2002.

Stealth Ventures Plans Underground Coal Gasification in Nova Scotia

Alberta-based Stealth Ventures Ltd. has entered into an agreement with Clean Coal Ltd. (CCL), for the development of an underground coal gasification (UCG) project in the Cumberland Basin of Nova Scotia. The coal would be burned in place to create gas, rather than mining it for processing on the surface.

Tenaska Marketing Ventures (TMV)/Tenaska Marketing Canada, one of the top natural gas marketers in North America, has promoted several personnel to align its geographic and functional activities and consolidate decision-making authority into each area’s management structure. Terry Cameron was promoted to senior vice president, north, where he will oversee the midwestern and eastern market areas. Mark Whitt takes over as senior vice president, west, where he will oversee western activities. David Schettler is the new senior vice president, south, where he will oversee the Midcontinent and southern U.S. region. Marty Titus was promoted to senior vice president, risk and structured products, which includes risk management, project marketing, deal structuring and valuation functions. John Obermiller, as senior vice president, finance, will manage TMV’s mid- and back-office activities. The five new senior vice presidents will report to President Fred Hunzeker. Tenaska also promoted Janet Corritore to vice president, gas scheduling; Kristen Gould, to vice president, Tenaska Marketing Canada; and Chris Forsman to regional director, Midcontinent.

Monroe Gas Storage Co., a venture of Foothills Energy Ventures LLC and High Sierra Energy LP, is holding a binding open season for up to 1 Bcf of firm, high-deliverability capacity at its Monroe Gas Storage facility under construction near Amory, MS. The facility will use a depleted gas reservoir to provide multi-cycle storage with a maximum injection capability of 445 MMcf/d and a maximum withdrawal capability of 465 MMcf/d. The project will have dual interconnections to Texas Eastern Transmission Co. in the M1 market zone and Tennessee Gas Pipeline into the 500 Leg in Zone 1. Tenaska Regains Control of Gas Marketing Arm

Tenaska Inc. has regained full control of its natural gas marketing arm, Tenaska Marketing Ventures (TMV), after completing a half-stake repurchase from affiliates of American International Group Inc. (AIG). Financial details of the purchase, which included Tenaska Gas Storage and Tenaska Marketing Canada, were not disclosed.

Bobcat Seeks to Start Up Storage Pipe Facilities

Bobcat Gas Storage, a unit of Houston-based Haddington Ventures III LLC, Thursday asked FERC for the go-ahead to place into service pipeline facilities that will connect its salt dome natural gas storage project to the interstate pipeline grid. It said it intends to file a separate, concurrent request to start up its new storage facilities in St. Landry Parish, LA.

There were further indications recently of a sea change in public attitudes toward offshore drilling when a public opinion poll sample in Massachusetts, a bastion of liberalism and environmentalism, indicated that a majority of state residents favored drilling off their New England coast.

Cheniere Strikes LNG Marketing Deal with JPMorgan

Cheniere Energy Inc. marketing subsidiary Cheniere Marketing Inc. has entered into a domestic marketing agreement for the sale of liquefied natural gas (LNG) with J.P. Morgan Ventures Energy Corp., a subsidiary of JPMorgan Chase & Co. The deal was expected as Cheniere struggles to restructure its business in a weak U.S. LNG market.
