China Could Have Its Own Shale Revolution

An abundance of shale natural gas reserves in China could one day cause the country to turn away from pipeline imports and liquefied natural gas (LNG), suggested analysts at Barclays Capital. But China must unlock the secrets of its shales and develop infrastructure to move the gas produced, both of which will delay any shale revolution in the People’s Republic.

The outlook for March, however, did trend slightly cooler overall.

Range to Jettison Barnett Stake to Focus on ‘Liquids-Rich’ Marcellus

Marking a U-turn of sorts in the company’s exploration and production strategy due to low natural gas prices and a premium on liquids prices, Range Resources Corp. in its 3Q2010 earnings call put its Barnett Shale properties in Texas on the block and announced that it plans to focus on its “liquids-rich plays” in the Marcellus Shale.

NTSB Cites Power Glitch in San Bruno Gas Pipe Explosion

A power glitch at the Pacific Gas & Electric Co. (PG&E) natural gas terminal in Milpitas, CA, opened up a pipeline control valve, which in turn caused a surge in pressure before the San Bruno, CA, gas pipeline ruptured last month, the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) reported Wednesday.

Temperatures in the Northeast and North Central portions of the United States will average warmer than normal through November, but are likely to turn colder than normal in December as the historically persistent negative phase of the North Atlantic Oscillation and the strength of the North Pacific climate overcome the effects of a La Nina event off the western coast of South America and record warm North Atlantic, WSI forecasters said.
