Stingray to Provide Gas Transport for Unocal’s Deep Shelf Project

Stingray Pipeline Co. LLC’s gas pipe system, a joint venture of Shell Gas Transmission LLC and Enterprise Products Partners LP, has contracted with its first deep shelf natural gas customer in the Gulf of Mexico (GOM). Stingray officials said the system will provide natural gas transportation services for Unocal’s Harvest deep shelf development, which is currently producing more than 45 MMcf/d.

Piceance Basin gas production growth and the market interest of one major Piceance gas producer are behind plans for a new 300 MDth/d gas pipeline that would cross northern Colorado to the Cheyenne Hub. The pipeline, which would be built by Wyoming Interstate Co. (WIC), would deliver gas to the proposed Cheyenne Plains project, which would have to be expanded.

Northern Natural Gas, MidAmerican Firm Up Transport Agreement

Northern Natural Gas Co. (NNG), the pipeline subsidiary of Houston-based Dynegy Inc., and MidAmerican Energy Co. (MEC) on Thursday entered into a long-term firm gas transportation supply agreement. The contract calls for NNG to provide 96,000 Dth of firm gas transportation service to MEC’s Greater Des Moines Energy Center located in Pleasant Hill, IA. MEC plans to build a $368 million 540 MW gas-fired plant there, with operations set for the spring of 2003.

Burlington Canada Sets Environmental Standards for Sour Gas Production & Transport

The Calgary arm of a U.S.-based producer has found a key to keep access to the hazardous 30% of western Canadian natural gas – bend over backwards to make peace with increasingly fearful communities. Burlington Resources Canada Energy Ltd., a wholly-owned subsidiary of its Houston namesake, set a new standard for securing co-operation with development of “sour” gas, laced with hazardous hydrogen-sulphide.

El Paso and Coalition to Study $1.6B Nova Scotia Pipe

In an effort to transport natural gas supplies from off the coast of Nova Scotia to markets in eastern Canada and the northeastern United States, El Paso Corp. said that it has begun engineering studies for the 1 Bcf/d Blue Atlantic Transmission System. The company has gathered a coalition of technical expertise from both countries to address the specific design and technology issues involved in constructing the proposed 750-mile, 36-inch offshore pipeline.
