CenterPoint Energy Gas Transmission (CEGT) has asked FERC for authorization to carry out activities to place its 17-mile, small-diameter Line replacement project in southwestern Arkansas in service by Nov. 12.

As part of the lingering reaction to a natural gas transmission pipeline rupture and explosion two years ago in San Bruno, CA, Gov. Jerry Brown on Sunday signed into law four bills dealing with parts of the tragedy along with two other energy-related bills. Overall, Brown signed 34 measures and vetoed five for the day.

FERC should approve a request by Trunkline Gas Co. to abandon by sale 770 miles of its gas transmission system for conversion to crude oil service over the objection of protesters whose “doomsday scenarios [are] designed to lock in the status quo, despite ample demonstration that the status quo is not consistent with the overall public interest,” the pipeline told the Commission in a filing Friday.

DTE Energy, Enbridge Inc. and Spectra Energy Corp. last week agreed to develop the Nexus Gas Transmission (NGT) system to move growing supplies of Ohio Utica Shale gas to markets in the U.S. Midwest, including Ohio, Michigan, and Ontario, Canada.
