PG&E Gets High Marks for ‘Social Investing’

A global consulting firm tracking social investment practices assigned San Francisco-based Pacific Gas and Electric Co. (PG&E) with a triple-A (AAA) rating Thursday for the combination utility’s performance on social, environmental and strategic governance issues compared to peer companies in the utility industry. The announcement coincided with PG&E’s release of its 2007 report on its social responsibility track record.

Natgas Futures Drop as Traders Eye Warm-Up Next Week

After tracking lower in Sunday’s overnight Globex trading session on news that some weather forecasts were calling for moderating temperatures next week, Nymex January natural gas futures maintained the downward price momentum throughout Monday’s regular session. Just two sessions after the prompt month reached a $9.050 high, the very same contract on Monday reached a low of $7.780 before closing at $7.806, down 61.6 cents from Friday’s close.

Most Prices Up as Hurricane Threat Grows; Expected Path Shifted Toward Southeast LA

Cash prices recorded moderate rallies at most points Friday as revised tracking projections for a much strengthened Hurricane Katrina had the storm approaching more closely to the eastern end of Gulf of Mexico (GOM) production operations than had been anticipated Thursday. But Florida Gas Transmission (FGT) Zone 3, which would be highly susceptible to the impact of Katrina shut-ins, shot up more than $3 on average with peak quotes of $14 being reported.

House Bill Would Authorize FERC to Set Up Electronic Gas Price Tracking

The draft energy bill reported out by the House Energy and Commerce Committee early Thursday would authorize the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission to issues rules authorizing or establishing an electronic information system “to provide the Commission and the public with timely access to such information as is necessary or appropriate to facilitate price transparency and participation in natural gas markets.”

Analysts Say Berkley Breakup Possible

Calgary-based Berkley Petroleum Corp. might be worth more if it’sbroken up and sold, according to analysts who are tracking the hostiletakeover bid by Hunt Oil Co. (see Daily GPI,Dec. 29, 2000). Dallas-based Hunt offered to buy Berkley in lateDecember for C$1.4 billion, including debt, or about C$10 a share incash for each Berkley share.
