Natural Gas Transportation Push Continues in California

Even though a statewide ballot initiative to boost natural gas for transportation was defeated soundly by California voters last month, T. Boone Pickens’ gas-powered transportation company, Clean Energy Fuels Corp., said Monday it has won a 10-year contract with the City of Glendale, CA, to build and operate a new large-scale public access compressed natural gas (CNG) fueling facility to support the city’s expanding CNG-powered vehicle fleets.

Futures Test $6 Support Following 62 Bcf Storage Build

Even though the traditional natural gas storage injection season ended with last week’s report, traders and analysts, while expecting another injection to be reported by the Energy Information Administration (EIA) for the week ended Nov. 7, were not anticipating the whopping 62 Bcf that was injected into underground storage. As a result, near-month futures on Friday tested support at $6 before rebounding to nearly unchanged from Thursday’s close.

Stout 88 Bcf Storage Build Fails to Fuel Bears

Even though the natural gas storage report for the week ended Oct. 3 revealed an injection 20 Bcf larger than historical comparisons for the week, November natural gas futures prices, after an initial knee jerk lower, were fairly even keel in Thursday trade. Taking a break from declines, the prompt-month natural gas contract gained 8.3 cents to close at $6.825. November crude dropped another $2.36 to finish at $86.59/bbl.

CSU Ups the Ante: Nine Hurricanes Forecast This Year
