Southern Star Central Taps Southern Union Subsidiary to Operate Central Pipeline

Southern Union Co. reported Thursday that its subsidiary, Energy Worx, Inc., has entered into a multi-year agreement with Southern Star Central Corp., a private equity fund sponsored by American International Group, Inc. (“AIG”), to manage and operate its recently acquired Central Pipeline.

Williams’ New Design OCS Platform, Taps Deepwater GOM

Construction of Williams’ Canyon Station — a fixed-leg platform in 300 feet of water in East Main Pass Block 261 — has been completed and is ready to receive up to 500 MMcf/d from 10 subsea wells 55 miles out in the deepwater Camden Hills, Kings Peak and Aconcagua fields. The Gulf of Mexico platform was completed on a fast, 18-month track. Deliveries are expected to begin in late September when feeder lines are connected, reaching 300 MMcf/d by the end of October and full capacity by the end of the year.

Enron Taps Wholesale Execs To Help Lay With Strategy

Enron Corp. promoted two of the Houston company’s wholesale services veterans last week to join CEO Kenneth L. Lay in the Office of the Chairman, which sets company strategy. Greg Whalley, 39, and Mark Frevert, 46, moved to the top floor last Tuesday. Whalley, who assumes the president and COO spot, had been president and COO of Enron Wholesale Services, while Frevert, now vice chairman, had been chairman and CEO of that division. Enron Wholesale accounted for the bulk of the company’s second quarter revenue this year. All three, said Lay, will help guide the company.

Davis Taps Bosnia Veteran to Speed Power Plants

California Gov. Gray Davis Tuesday announced the formation of a statewide task force, under a Democratic appointee whose most recent job was reconstruction in Bosnia and Kosovo, to speed the development of more power plants in the state. It came on a day when California’s weather began to heat up, power plant capacity idled for maintenance remained high (10,000 MW) and the state grid operator began pleading for stepped up conservation.
