ConocoPhillips: U.S. Gas Output Down Slightly, 2005 Worldwide Production to Grow 3%
ConocoPhillips beat Wall Street forecasts in the second quarter, with income up 51% on high commodity prices and strong results in its marketing and refinery businesses. And even though production fell sequentially on planned and unplanned maintenance, CEO Jim Mulva said he expects the company’s total 2005 oil and natural gas output to increase 3% over 2004.

On the eve of its Wall Street analysts conference Tuesday, Sempra Energy’s liquefied natural gas (LNG) unit announced a nonbinding “Heads of Agreement (HOA)” with Italy’s exploration/development company, Eni S.p.A., for a 20-year deal for one-third of the throughput at the Sempra LNG Cameron receiving terminal now under development near Lake Charles, LA.

Resolving this potentially multi-billion-dollar risk is one of the key goals for which Baum has taken responsibility before he retires at the end of January next year.

Tantalizing Wall Street, San Diego-based Sempra Energy Tuesday announced it was increasing its earnings estimate for last year to about $3.80/share, noting its increased optimism is driven by higher-than-expected commodity trading profits. The utility holding company with large interests in three proposed liquefied natural gas (LNG) facilities and power plant development is scheduled to report its fourth quarter and 2004 results Feb. 23.
