Prices were mixed but mostly softer Wednesday as some relief from inferno-like heat indexes will be spreading Thursday through the Midwest and arriving later in the Northeast.

A flat Waha was the sole exception to continued price increases Friday. Eastern quotes especially saw strong gains as spreading hot weather that promises to stick around for a while raised power generation demand at a time when gas is competitively priced against other fuels. A 61.7-cent screen spike on the day before contributed extra support to the cash market.

With a little help from the previous day’s futures advance, spreading cold weather was able to keep prices on the rise at nearly all points Wednesday. Only flat numbers at a couple of Rockies points prevented gains across the board. Otherwise, upticks ranged from 2 cents to about 35 cents.
