Southwestern Energy Co. reported record third quarter production from Appalachia to nearly 2.4 Bcfe/d, 42% higher compared to the year-ago period.

After a slow 2016, Southwestern Energy Co. hit the gas pedal during the 2017 first quarter when it tested or made progress on a series of new wells from northern Pennsylvania to northern West Virginia and confirmed the economic viability of a new interval in the Fayetteville Shale of Arkansas.

Four companies — Kinder Morgan Inc., National Grid, Southern Company Gas and Southwestern Energy Co. — have joined a voluntary Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) program to reduce methane emissions from the oil and gas industry, the agency said last week.

Southwestern Energy Co., the fourth largest natural gas producer in the United States, expects total output to decline by 14-17% this year as it pulls back on new development and concentrates only on completions. To help defray costs, the producer also has secured lower transport rates for its West Virginia production.
