Transportation Notes
Southern Natural Gas said third-party damage caused an unscheduled outage on the 18-inch diameter South Pass Line offshore southeast Louisiana. Because of the outage, Southern is unable to accept nominations at the Main Pass 61A, Main Pass 61B and Main Pass 61B Buy Back points until further notice. In an update Monday, the pipeline said it is still developing a repair plan and the anticipated return to service date is unknown at this time.
Transportation Notes
Transco said unfavorable weather had delayed the progress of repairs to a section of pipe in Eugene Island Block 135 on its Southeast Louisiana Lateral that was damaged during Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. Transco now anticipates completion of the work on Feb. 15; it had previously expected to finish Jan. 31 (see Daily GPI, Jan. 16).
Bay Gas’ High Deliverability Storage Keeps on Growing
The McIntosh salt cavern gas storage operation north of Mobile, AL, continues to grow in response to strong demand for high-deliverability storage in the Southeast region. Bay Gas Storage said earlier this month that it received expressions of interest from the market for 22 Bcf of additional storage capacity during its recent open season. It plans to add two more 5 Bcf caverns to the field with service beginning in fall of 2009.

ANR Pipeline said an unforeseen engine outage at its Patterson compressor station will lead to restrictions in the Southeast Gathering Area. Patterson to Eunice delivery capacity will be reduced to 650,000 Dth/d through Friday. Based on current nominations ANR said it anticipates that the reductions will result in the curtailment firm secondary and interruptible nominations.

El Paso to Develop Underground Storage in Arizona
El Paso Corp.’s Western Pipeline Group plans to develop a new underground natural gas storage facility near Eloy, AZ, about 40 miles southeast of Phoenix. The project, announced Thursday, would consist of up to four underground salt caverns capable of storing 3.5 Bcf of gas and delivering 350 MMcf/d.
Dominion Expects 160 MMcf/d of New Deepwater Production This Month
Dominion Exploration and Production said it started gas production from the Rigel and Seventeen Hands deepwater fields, located about 120 miles southeast of New Orleans in Mississippi Canyon Blocks 296 and 299, respectively, and expects production to reach 160 MMcf/d by the end of the month.
FERC Approves 17 Bcf Liberty Gas Storage Facility in Louisiana
FERC on Thursday issued a certificate to Liberty Gas Storage LLC to build a 17.6 Bcf natural gas storage facility in Louisiana to accommodate the expanding network of liquefied natural gas (LNG) projects in the Southeast and satisfy the demand of gas-fired power plants in the region.
