Florida PSC Grants Progress Energy Gas Cost Recovery on New Supplies

Ruling that Progress Energy Florida (PEF) was simply enhancing the reliability of its fuel supply, the Florida Public Service Commission (PSC) has granted the utility permission to recover the costs associated with transporting new supplies of domestic natural gas. The utility said it plans to enter into a series of agreements to move gas on a proposed pipeline known as the Southeast Supply Header (SESH).

The methane simply vanishedinto thin air at a cost of more than $200 million, according to asurvey of FERC Form 2 data by GRI. The GRI research shows that onaverage, each of those interstate pipes lost about 4.8 MMcf/d.
