Paramount Continues Shopping Spree, Adds Cavell Energy for C$148 Million

Facing an ongoing battle with Alberta regulators over the impact of its gas production on oilsands recovery, Paramount Energy Trust continued to expand its operations outside Alberta Wednesday with a C$148 million purchase of Cavell Energy Corp. The deal increases Paramount’s daily natural gas production by 21% to 110 MMcfe/d, is accretive to cash flow and expands the company’s operations into Saskatchewan.

Entergy Still Shopping for Assets, But Waiting on Better Valuations

Entergy Corp. remains on the prowl for energy-related assets to buy, a top official with the utility said last week, but it remains frustrated with the asking price for those assets. Echoing comments recently made by another utility executive, Entergy CEO Wayne Leonard said that the recent wave of generator bankruptcies may result in more realistic prices for such things as power plants.

Kinder Morgan Adds Tejas Gas To Christmas List

Kinder Morgan Energy Partners LP (KMP) added the massive eastern Texas pipeline system of Tejas Gas LLC to its shopping cart this Christmas. The company said it’s buying Tejas, a wholly owned subsidiary of InterGen (North America) Inc. — which is a joint venture of Royal Dutch Shell and Bechtel — for $750 million in cash, or “a little less than eight times the [annual] EBITDA of the system,” according to CEO Richard Kinder.
