Nova Lateral Ruptures, Curtails 50 MMcf/d
A Nova Gas Transmission 12-inch-diameter gathering line explodedSept. 2, causing a fire that injured a pipeline employee. Theemployee was treated and released. The rupture, which occurred onthe northwestern part of Nova’s Alberta pipeline system about 60miles north of Fairview, AB also forced the curtailment of about 50MMcf/d of gas.

Governors from across the United States are expected to convene in Columbus, OH, Sept. 20 at a summit to discuss the high natural gas prices and supply challenges facing consumers this winter. The meeting will also address long-term state and federal gas policy, such as human resource needs in the domestic petroleum industry, tax incentives and access to public lands for gas drilling.

Gulfstream Files While Buccaneer Stalls
Williams’ Buccaneer Gas Pipeline was the first to file an underwater Florida-bound project with FERC on Sept. 30 (see NGI Oct. 4), but Coastal Corp.’s competing Gulfstream Natural Gas System moved to the lead last week, filing its project three days after Buccaneer’s filing was rejected on technical and environmental grounds related to new filing requirements. FERC told Buccaneer to come back with a complete filing.

Florida Gas Transmission extended an Overage Alert Day noticefor its market area (see Daily GPI, Sept. 29) through Wednesday butloosened the tolerance for negative imbalances to 6%.
Half-Day Conference Slated for Independence, MarketLink
FERC announced yesterday it wants to hold a half-day publicconference Sept. 29 to address the “steady flow” of Congressionalinquiries into the Independence and MarketLink pipeline projects.The conference will be used to gather “supplemental information” onthe projects, but the Commission said it does not intend to reopenthe record on them.
