Just a hint that Hurricane Felix might be able to reach the Gulf of Mexico was enough to send October natural gas futures into the “plus” column Tuesday. After opening in a deep hole, down almost 12 cents from Friday’s settlement, October futures managed to rally a stout 27.9 cents to finish at $5.629, up $16.1 cents for the day.

In separate filings Wednesday, the American Gas Association (AGA) and the American Public Gas Association (APGA) buttressed each other’s comments and said they generally support — with a few qualifiers — the proposed rulemaking by FERC to revise the transparency regulations for wholesale natural gas transporters and sellers (see Daily GPI, April 20).

Southern California Gas issued a high-linepack OFO for Saturday but didn’t send the OFO announcement until that morning. The order, with a 10% tolerance for positive daily imbalances, was kept in place through Sunday before being allowed to lapse Monday.

Arcadia Gas Begins Nonbinding Open Season for New LA Storage
Arcadia Gas Storage (AGS) is holding a nonbinding open season through Jan. 18 for salt cavern natural gas storage service in North Louisiana. AGS is offering a total of 15.5 Bcf of working gas storage capacity to be developed in three phases at its existing facility near Arcadia, LA.
Beck Study Finds that ‘What If’ Conditions Could Send Gas Prices to $12
Management consultant R.W. Beck, which said in July that “high oil prices, hot summer weather and hurricanes” could send natural gas spot prices up rapidly this month, noted in a new report that those conditions “have come to fruition.” Beck’s 2005 calendar year price forecast remains unchanged, at $6.40/MMBtu, but its chief forecaster warned that continued adverse conditions, especially a hurricane threat during Bidweek, could cause prices to go as high as $12 in September.
