Still three months before it makes an official general rate case filing, Sempra Energy’s San Diego Gas and Electric Co. is sparring a major utility consumer group over its plans to file for a $250.4 million increase in its base annual revenues. The utility notified the California Public Utilities Commission on Aug. 1 of its intention to file a general rate case by Dec.1 with an effective date in 2008.

SoCalGas Expands Energy-Saving Incentives for Businesses
Following a mandate from state regulators who authorized increased funding, Sempra Energy’s Southern California Gas Co. announced Thursday that it was expanding its energy efficiency programs for businesses, permitting qualifying customers to obtain up to $300,000 annually in rebates for cutting energy waste in their facilities and operations. In addition, for the first time, the SoCalGas programs are open to the utility’s largest industrial customers.

SoCalGas, El Paso Close to New Capacity Deal
Sempra Energy’s Southern California Gas Co. and its principal interstate supplier, El Paso Natural Gas Co., have a preliminary agreement on a new contract for 750 MMcf/d of capacity on El Paso’s system to take care of SoCalGas’ core customers, according to a Securities and Exchange Commission filing last Tuesday by El Paso. SoCal’s offices were closed Thursday for the Christmas holiday, so the company could not confirm the details.
