House Lawmakers Press to Eliminate Offshore Ban on Gas-Only Drilling

Less than a week after House leaders scrapped expanded Outer Continental Shelf (OCS) development as part of the deficit-reduction package, two members of the House Resources Committee are expected to introduce stand-alone legislation by Tuesday that would eliminate the moratorium with respect to drilling for natural gas on the federal OCS.

The Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO) last Tuesday essentially scrapped the quarterly rate revision for the winter because of declining gas costs, ordering Columbia Gas of Ohio and Dominion East Ohio to file new rates for December by Nov. 24 to reflect the actual cost of natural gas for December and to file new rates for January seven days before the expiration of December rates.

Dynegy’s $2.25B Sale of Illinois Power to Exelon Called Off

Dynegy Inc. and Exelon Corp. have scrapped a $2.25 billion transaction under which Dynegy would have sold its Illinois Power subsidiary to Illinois-based Exelon. The announcement came after Illinois lawmakers failed to approve legislation needed to facilitate Exelon’s purchase of Illinois Power.
