Futures Plummet in Post-AGA Sell-Off

It is often said that markets will fall twice as fast as theyrise and that was never more true than yesterday in the natural gaspit at Nymex. After climbing steadily over the past week to the$4.555 level Wednesday, the market was flushed lower yesterday amida torrent of profit-taking that in turn, triggered a wave ofsell-stop loss orders. Bargain hunting was seen late to stem theprice erosion, but the damage was already done.

Added Capacity Sends Market Hub’s Earnings Up

NiSource Inc.’s Market Hub Partners Storage L.P. (MHP) saw itsnet income rise 13% to $2.6 million for the first quarter of thisyear, up from $2.3 for the first quarter of 1999. Revenues rose to$8.2 million, up from $8 million last year at the Houstonsubsidiary, mostly because of expanded working gas storage capacityat its Moss Bluff, TX and Egan, LA natural gas storage facilities.

FL Power Plant Construction Starts to Rise

Marking the start of what many expect to be a major trend overthe next few years, a Florida county authorized the construction ofa 460 MW gas-fired facility earlier this week. The $100 millionplant, which will be built and operated by Reliant Energy, willstart service in the fourth quarter of 2001. The Osceola CountyCommission Board approved the plan by a vote of 4-1.
