ConocoPhillips’ natural gas marketing arm could write the revised version of how to succeed in the energy merchant business. In the past three years, the integrated producer has steadily grown from regional marketer to North American powerhouse, and now the company is positioning itself to become a major player in liquefied natural gas (LNG), a new market that likely will impact energy trading, a company executive said Wednesday.

Beck Raises ’04 Gas Price Forecast 10%

R.W. Beck’s energy market consultants on Wednesday revised their 2004 natural gas price at Henry Hub upward 50 cents, or 10%, to $5.86/MMBtu because, they said, world events have driven up oil prices and kept an already tight gas market in over drive.

Ivan’s Latest Path Allows Futures to Sell Off

Confused as to what path Hurricane Ivan will take following a number of revised forecasts, October natural gas futures traded tentatively for a majority of the shortened regular session, before taking a significant step lower towards settlement. Futures hit a low on the day of $4.54, a level unseen since November 2003, before settling at $4.57, down 8.8 cents.

Dissenting in part were Commissioners Nora M. Brownell and Joseph Kelliher.
