Drilling Lease OK’d by Park Board in Suburban Pittsburgh

A suburban Pittsburgh regional park authority in Allegheny County, PA, voted Thursday to sign a five-year, non surface lease with a Pittsburgh land brokerage firm that could lead to Marcellus drilling under the one park the authority runs. The agreement still needs to be approved by four of the five communities that the authority represents.

Most Comply With EPA Hydrofracking Inquiry

Eight out of nine major national and regional hydraulic fracturing (hydrofracking) service providers have agreed to submit “timely and complete information” to help the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) conduct its study on hydrofracking and its impact on drinking water quality, the EPA said last week. Halliburton, after failing to comply with the agency’s voluntary requests for information, has been subpoenaed.
