CPUC Consumer Unit: Southwest Gas Seeking Too Much
The California Public Utilities Commission’s (CPUC) Division of Ratepayer Advocates (DRA) is recommending changes in three general rate case requests by Southwest Gas Corp., it said Thursday. Southwest serves the fringe mountain and desert areas in eastern California.
Oregon County Planners Weigh LNG Site Rejection
Warming up for a public hearing next Monday, the local county planning staff recirculated its negative assessment from earlier in the year recommending that local elected officials reject NorthernStar Natural Gas’s proposed Bradwood Landing liquefied natural gas (LNG) receiving terminal site along the Oregon side of the Columbia River, about 30 miles east of Astoria, OR. A spokesperson for the project downplayed the staff report as old news.
Regulatory Staff Recommends Aquila Sell Its Kansas Gas Utility Assets
Given Aquila’s inability to achieve an investment-grade credit rating, the staff of the Kansas Corporation Commission (KCC) is recommending that the commission order the company to either divest its Kansas gas utility or establish a corporate structure with ring fencing that protects the utility and its ratepayers in the event of an adverse regulatory action in another state. Aquila has requested that it be allowed to file a response to the staff report by May 1.

It’s not everyday that someone suggests adding Peruvian LNG to your gas supply portfolio, but that’s what Dallas-based Hunt Oil may soon be recommending to some West Coast buyers. By 2009, the company and its partners, Spain’s Repsol and Korea’s SK Corp., hope to be bringing 4.4 million metric tons of LNG per year to the U.S. and Mexican west coasts from a liquefaction plant in Pampa Melchorita, Peru.
Former Dynegy Exec May Be Resentenced to 15 Years in Prison
Federal prosecutors in Houston are recommending that former Dynegy Corp. executive Jamie Olis receive 15 years in prison for his role in the company’s Project Alpha transaction, according to court briefs filed on Tuesday. Olis’ original 24-year sentence was overturned in November by the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals in New Orleans (see Daily GPI, Nov. 2).
