The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection slapped Range Resources Corp. with a $4.15 million fine for a series of violations at six of the company’s water impoundments in southwest Pennsylvania, representing the largest financial penalty against any operator in the state’s shale drilling era.

Range Resources will begin remediation work on Monday to reclaim the land where a controversial water impoundment is thought to have leaked wastewater.

Range Resources Corp. turned in another solid quarter of production and efficiency gains, with its focus at mid-year appearing to shift more toward sustaining growth by continuing to diversify its core areas in Pennsylvania and strengthening its programs in other fields across the country.

Energy Transfer Partners LP (ETP) plans to construct a 2.2 Bcf/d pipeline to carry Marcellus and Utica shale gas from area processing plants to multiple markets, first by accessing its existing Panhandle Eastern Pipe Line (PEPL) and other Midwestern pipelines, and later accessing the Dawn Hub in Ontario via a new pipeline segment.

Energy Transfer Partners LP (ETP) has secured capacity commitments from some leading Appalachian gas producers for its planned 2.2 Bcf/d pipeline to carry Marcellus and Utica shale gas from area processing plants to multiple markets. With an open season under way, the project could grow to 3.25 Bcf/d, ETP said.

Pennsylvania regulators and officials from Range Resources Corp. are trying to determine what, if anything, caused a large water impoundment in the southeast part of the state to leak enough brine water that high levels of chloride were detected in the soil beneath it.
