Loews Purchases Gulf South Pipe for $1.136B

Loews Corp., a holding company whose far reaching businesses engage in everything from cigarette sales to hotel operations, will pay Entergy-Koch LP $1.136 billion for Gulf South Pipeline. Subsidiary Texas Gas Transmission LLC (TGT) will take over operations of the 8,000-mile natural gas pipeline, which transports 2 Bcf/d and provides a total working gas storage capacity of 68.5 Bcf.

Louis Dreyfus Purchases NGL, LPG Systems from ExxonMobil

Houston-based Louis Dreyfus Energy Services LP on Friday completed the acquisition of a 1,400-mile West Texas natural gas liquids (NGL) pipeline system and the Hattiesburg, MS liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) terminal from subsidiaries of ExxonMobil Corp. No financial details were disclosed.

Goldman Sachs Purchases More El Paso Assets

In its second deal with Goldman Sachs Co. in less than a month, El Paso Corp. has completed the sale of its interests in East Coast Power LLC for $456 million. The transaction, announced earlier this year, effectively reduces El Paso’s consolidated debt by $1 billion.

EIA: Consumers Would Save With Alaska Gas Pipe, But Treasury, Lower 48 Producers Would Pay

U.S. natural gas consumers could save as much as $16 billion (in 2001 dollars) on gas purchases over a 15-year period if a long-line pipeline from the Alaska North Slope to the Lower 48 states is constructed and placed into service by 2010.

El Paso Natural Gas Purchases Arizona’s Copper Eagle Project

El Paso Natural Gas Co. last week purchased Copper Eagle Gas Storage LLC for an undisclosed amount. Copper Eagle was set up two years ago as a joint effort by El Paso Corp. affiliate Crystal Gas Storage Inc. and Pinnacle West Energy, and it now is moving forward on its second attempt to become the Phoenix area’s first natural gas storage project (see Daily GPI, Aug. 19: Oct. 16, 2001).

Newly formed gas midstream company Regency Gas Services has acquired approximately 2,300 miles of natural gas gathering lines and four processing plants as well as pipeline assets from El Paso Corp. for $120 million.

Goldman Sachs Purchases Dynegy, El Paso Euro Trading Books

Banker Goldman Sachs said Friday it had purchased the European natural gas and power trading books of Dynegy Inc. and El Paso Corp., some of them 10-15 year contracts. El Paso said in February that its European trading book had been sold for $80 million but did not disclose the buyer (see Daily GPI, Feb. 28).
