NARUC Committee to Focus on Critical Utility Infrastructure Protection

In an effort to bolster and better protect the nation’s utility infrastructure, the National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners (NARUC) at its annual convention Monday elevated its ad hoc committee on Critical Infrastructure to permanent status.

Seven Mitigation Projects Selected in First Round of Jonah Program

The Jonah Interagency Mitigation and Reclamation Office (JIO) said it selected seven out of a total of 19 project proposals received to mitigate the impact on wildlife habitat, water and air quality, and livestock forage of Jonah Field gas development in Wyoming. In this first round of projects, the JIO, which includes representatives from four state agencies and the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), spent about $660,000 out of the $24.5 million donated by EnCana Corp. for the mitigation program.

Nonprofit environmental group Campaign to Protect America’s Lands (CPAL) said last week that results from a survey of registered voters in New Mexico show that fewer than one in four, including less than half the registered Republicans, favor the Bureau of Land Management’s (BLM) plan to permit oil and gas drilling in the Otero Mesa region, which includes two counties, Otero and Sierra, in southern New Mexico.
