CA Governor Proposes Modified Energy Department Consolidation

Backing off earlier proposals to include the California Public Utilities Commission, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger Thursday submitted a modified proposal for creating a state energy department with a cabinet-level energy secretary. The department will be centered on a revised state energy commission consolidated with several other energy units — the Electricity Oversight Board and the basically inactive state Consumer Conservation Financing and Power Authority.

Backing off earlier proposals for an all in one strategy, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger’s administration announced Monday that the governor will be submitting a modified proposal later this week for creating a state energy department with a Cabinet-level energy secretary. The department will be centered on a revised California Energy Commission (CEC) consolidated with several other energy units — the Electricity Oversight Board and the basically inactive state Consumer Conservation Financing and Power Authority. The California Public Utilities Commission remains outside the fold.

CA Lawmakers Look at LNG, Energy Agency Reorganization Bills

California’s lower state legislative house Assembly Utilities and Commerce Committee postponed action last week on four energy proposals, while passing out a liquefied natural gas (LNG) assessment bill and failing to approve a proposed energy agency consolidation/reorganization proposal. The LNG measure (AB 993) now moves to the Appropriations Committee.

LNG Terminal Likely In Oregon, State Official Says

With four different proposals in the early, informal stages of development for siting liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminals in Oregon, at least one and maybe two of the terminals eventually will be built, Michael Grainey, the head of the state energy department, told an energy conference in Seattle Thursday. He added that 140 miles of new natural gas transmission pipelines in the state helps make these proposed projects more feasible.
