Calgary-based private equity Waterous Energy Fund LP has closed its debut fund and raised C$1.4 billion ($1 billion) in committed capital, exceeding an original target of C$1 billion.

With funding from private equity giant Kayne Anderson Energy Funds, Native Exploration Holdings LLC plans to prowl for opportunities in the Midcontinent, particularly Oklahoma.

Baker Hughes Inc. late Tuesday said it was teaming up with a Goldman Sachs unit and a private equity firm to create a pure-play North American land pressure pumping company under the BJ Services Co. brand.

Although commodity prices have depressed oil and natural gas activity across the shales, Keller, TX-based Fountain Quail Water Management LLC was recently able to secure a commitment for up to $40 million of private equity financing to expand North American operations.
