With 23.9 Bcf/d of new pipeline capacity planned for the United States and Canada between now and the end of 2006, there’s some reason to be concerned about a capacity glut, according to a report by Energy and Environmental Analysis Inc., an Arlington, VA-based energy consulting firm.

From gas and power to clean air credits, bandwidth and plastics,you name it, and EnronOnline now sells it, but out of the plethoraof commodities now trading on the site worldwide, North Americannatural gas still tops the list of most actively traded.

FPL Group, parent of Florida Power and Light, is buying 66gas-fired turbines (model 7FA) and a generation services agreementfrom General Electric for $3.7 billion. The turbines will supportthe expansion underway at Florida Power as well as the continuedrapid growth of the corporation’s independent power productionsubsidiary, FPL Energy LLC. Under the agreement, GE will deliverthe turbines starting this year through 2004 and will providesupport services through 2011.
