Canadian Superior Expects New Field from East Ladyfern Discoveries

Canadian Superior Energy Inc. said it made two natural gas discoveries at its East Ladyfern natural gas play in northwestern Alberta and is expecting a new field to be established in the remote area about 22 miles east-southeast of the main Ladyfern gas field and about 65 miles east of Fort St. John, BC.

The company announced that the Z2 well on the Green Ranch Prospect located in Stephens County has been successfully tested and appears to be a “major new gas formation” discovery.

Traders Play It Safe Friday; Futures Climb 2.2 Cents

Caught between forecasts calling for another blast of cold air and its seasonal inclination to move lower, natural gas futures shuffled sideways Friday as neither bull nor bear could get much of anything going. The market finished mixed, with gains in the front months contrasting with losses in the back of the strip. The new prompt contract March finished at $5.605, up 2.2 cents for the day and 14 cents higher for the week. Weighed down by losses in the winter 2003/04 contracts, the 12-month strip advanced only 1.1 cents to $5.016. At just 66,757, estimated volume was light and reflected the market’s lack of direction.

Citing Key Role of LNG, Developers Ask FERC to Review Policy for Import Terminals

Citing the critical role that imported liquefied natural gas (LNG) will play in bridging the gap between domestic natural gas supply and demand over the next two decades, major LNG developers called on FERC Friday to exempt import terminals from the agency’s open-access and open-season regulations to encourage an influx of foreign LNG supplies into the United States. Without a more favorable regulatory regime, they warned overseas suppliers will go to the “place of least resistance” — Japan and western Europe, for example.
