FERC Warned to Tread ‘Lightly’ in Adjusting Quality Specs to Accommodate LNG

With liquefied natural gas (LNG) expected to become a “key piece of the supply picture” in the United States, a Shell executive on Tuesday called on the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission to consider adjusting quality specifications so that Btu enriched regasified gas can substitute for conventional dry gas in the transportation system without causing “any appreciable change in burner performance or safety of product.”

Tax Incentive Measures Pass House Committee

A key piece of tax legislation benefiting independent natural gas and oil producers moved through the House Ways and Means Committee Wednesday night (on a 24-17 vote) on its way to a late July rendezvous with three other parts of the administration’s energy plan on the House floor.

DEFS Ups Midstream Gulf Interest with Acquisition

Duke Energy Field Services (DEFS) grabbed itself a much larger piece of the natural gas midstream segment in the Gulf of Mexico this week as the company announced that it has purchased the former MCN Investment Corp.’s ownership interest in Dauphin Island Gathering Partners (DIGP), Mobile Bay Processing Partners (MBPP) and Gulf Coast NGL Pipeline, LLC (Gulf Coast). Terms of the transaction, which closed on July 11, were not disclosed.
