The Pennsylvania State Police (PSP) placed 208 trucks out of service in a three-day enforcement sweep that focused on commercial vehicles that haul wastewater from Marcellus Shale gas drilling sites, Police Commissioner Frank E. Pawlowski said Wednesday.

Oregon Water Official Prods Bradwood Landing LNG Backers

A crucial water quality permit being sought by NorthernStar Natural Gas Corp. for its proposed Bradwood Landing liquefied natural gas (LNG) facility along the Columbia River in Oregon was thrust into doubt by a Feb. 17 letter from the state director of the Environmental Quality (EQ) Department, alleging that an essential evaluation had not been properly completed by the LNG terminal backers. EQ Director Dick Petersen has suggested Bradwood withdraw and then resubmit its application to ovoid a denial.

Transportation Notes

CIG reported anticipating the completion of repairs to its Totem Storage Field dehydration facility in time to permit the return of full Totem service effective with Timely Cycle nominations for Thursday’s gas day. It canceled a force majeure that had precluded withdrawal transactions at the field since late last week (see Daily GPI, Dec. 14).

Maritimes Now an Export-Import Pipeline

FERC Tuesday issued an order amending Maritimes & Northeast Pipeline LLC’s presidential permit so that it can export, as well as import, natural gas through its cross-border pipeline facilities at the U.S.-Canadian border.

FERC last Thursday approved affiliates Oasis Pipeline LP’s (Oasis) and Oasis Pipe Line Co. Texas LP’s (Oasis Texas) request for Section 3 Natural Gas Act authorization and a presidential permit to build and operate pipeline facilities at the U.S.-Mexico border to export gas for use by gas-fired electric generation plants and industrial customers in northern Mexico. The border-crossing facilities were proposed as part of a much larger expansion of the Oasis system.

Weaver’s Cove Explores Offshore LNG Unloading Option

In response to concerns expressed by the community and the U.S. Coast Guard, as well as a recent denial of a dredging permit by Massachusetts, Weaver’s Cove Energy says it is exploring an alternative option that calls for the construction of an offshore liquefied natural gas (LNG) unloading berth in Mount Hope Bay and an underwater pipeline to transport LNG to a proposed terminal site in Fall River, MA.
