In apologizing to customers for unexpected reductions in capacity on the Baja Path over the holiday weekend (see the bulletin board for details), Pacific Gas and Electric’s California Gas Transmission (CGT) system said in addition to planned maintenance, it discovered an excessive amount of odorant in a section of Line 300B late May 25. Operations personnel have been working to isolate and purge the overodorized gas and expected to have this situation resolved Wednesday (June 1), CGT said.
Futures Retreat Mightily From Last Week’s $4 Visit
October natural gas futures values plummeted on Monday after the three hurricanes on the radar Friday all chose a more northerly path over the weekend, sparing the Gulf Coast and U.S. energy interests yet again. Another theory is that the back and forth trading of the last week reflects the normal ebb and flow of a range-bound market. Review Panel Recommends Mackenzie Project With Conditions
After five years of study an environmental and socioeconomic Joint Review Panel for the Mackenzie Gas Project (MGP) cleared the regulatory path toward a possible go-ahead for the mega-pipeline to tap far North reserves, rejecting environmentalists arguments to dump the whole project and coming up with a suggested compromise in the decades-long land claims battle with the Canadian aboriginal Deh Cho Dene Nation. The panel’s recommendation that the National Energy Board (NEB) approve the project sets the stage for about nine months of consideration by that agency.
