New York Mercantile Exchange Inc. (Nymex) parent Nymex Holdings Inc. has made an alliance agreement with LCH.Clearnet Ltd. to introduce a broad range of global energy products, which the companies hope will deliver improved capital and operational efficiencies through wider execution capabilities, broader credit intermediation and margining benefits for customers and market participants, they said Thursday.

Colorado Interstate Gas (CIG) personnel have secured a leaking well at the 8.5 Bcf Fort Morgan storage field in Morgan County, CO, parent firm El Paso Corp. said late Monday. However, gas from the storage facility, which is a depleted oil and gas field, continues to migrate to the surface at “various locations,” and storage operations have been shut down indefinitely, the company said.

Following months of unconfirmed speculation that Nymex Holdings might be on the sale block (see NGI, June 18), the parent company of the New York Mercantile Exchange, a global energy exchange powerhouse, confirmed last month that the company has been in talks with “certain parties” with regard to a “potential business combination.”

Independent gas storage developer NGS Energy LP, the parent company of Leaf River Energy Center LLC, said Leaf River will acquire the New Home Natural Gas Storage Project from El Paso Corp. subsidiary Southern Natural Gas Co.
