FERC last week gave the green light to AES Corporation’sacquisition of IPALCO Enterprises, which owns Indianapolis Power& Light Co. The stock-for-stock transaction, which wasannounced last July, now only needs the approval of the Securitiesand Exchange Commission to be completed. AES is a global powercompany involved in generation, distribution and retail supplybusinesses. It sells electricity to more than 19 million end-usecustomers each year. Indianapolois, IN-based IPALCO Enterprises’sregulated subsidiary, Indianapolis Power & Light, serves about430,000 residential, commercial and industrial customers in centralIndiana.

NRG Energy Joins SRW Cogeneration LP

Conoco subsidiary, Conoco Global Power (CGP) is selling a 50%stake in SRW Cogeneration Ltd. Partnership to subsidiaries of NRGEnergy. Currently, the partnership owns, and will operate a $260million power facility near Orange, TX, now under construction.

Crosstex Energy Services announced it has purchased Tejas GasTransmission LLC, an indirect subsidiary of Coral Energy, for anundisclosed amount. Tejas owns the 484-mile Gulf Coast PipelineSystem, which transports about 120 MMcf/d of gas, and includes asupply and marketing team, called G C Marketing Co.

Enron Unit Buys Las Vegas Power Facility

Southwest Power LLC, an entity owned partly by Enron bought LasVegas Cogeneration LP and SUNCO Ltd. from The United Co. Las VegasCogeneration owns a 50 MW combined cycle power plant in North LasVegas. Designated as a qualifying facility under the PublicUtilities Regulatory Policy Act of 1978, the plant delivers powerunder contract to Nevada Power while SUNCO serves as the plant’sthermal host.

Canada’s SRI to Buy Hornet of Calgary

SRI Oil & Gas Ltd., a private Montreal company, agreed withCalgary-based Hornet Oil & Gas Ltd. to acquire all outstandingshares of Hornet in exchange for SRI shares. SRI already owns 11.8%of private company Hornet’s common shares. It is estimated about1,650,000 common shares of SRI will be issued in the event theoffer is successful. The exchange ratio will be based on the netvalue of each entity Dec. 31, 1998.

Syntroleum, SLH Merging for Capital

Syntroleum Corp., the developer and owner of a proprietaryprocess for converting natural gas into synthetic crude oil, andSLH Corp., which owns about 31% of Syntroleum, agreed to merge in astock-for-stock deal, which has been approved by the boards of bothcompanies.
