EDF Bows Out as Constellation-MidAmerican Moves Forward

The competition to acquire Constellation Energy Group officially ended last Wednesday after global power producing giant Electricite de France (EDF) said it will not revise its current offer, but that it will continue its objective of developing new nuclear plants in the United States. Also last week, Constellation and MidAmerican Energy Holdings filed their merger plan with FERC and MidAmerican made a pitch to the Maryland Public Service Commission about the benefits of a union.

Long Beach LNG Terminal Plans Abandoned

Going from moribund to dead, a proposed 1 Bcf/d liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal in Long Beach Harbor along the Southern California coast was officially dropped Friday with the sponsor Mitsubishi Corp. notifying FERC. It had been barely breathing since a California Superior Court judge in Los Angeles refused to force the port to complete a final environmental assessment of the proposal (see Daily GPI, May 28).

EIR Work Begins on Woodside Offshore SoCal LNG Project

Federal and city authorities last Tuesday officially launched the full environmental impact review (EIR) of Australia-based Woodside Natural Gas’ proposed offshore liquefied natural gas (LNG) docking facility and undersea pipeline 28 miles from an onshore connection point near Los Angeles International Airport. The U.S. Coast Guard and City of Los Angeles jointly deemed as “complete” the application for OceanWay, triggering the EIR.
