PG&E Corp.’s recent billion-dollar re-financing loan andother moves by its counterparts at Southern California Edison Co.will not stop the two from trying to work out a deal with the statethat includes the sale of their transmission assets and assurancesof providing long-term power supplies at below market prices. MCN Moves Closer to Appeasing FTC

With regards to the proposed merger between MCN Energy Group andDTE Energy Co., the Michigan Public Service Commission (MPSC)approved a special agreement yesterday targeted at resolvingconcerns raised by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC). Under thespecial agreement, MCN’s natural gas utility, Michigan ConsolidatedGas Co. (MichCon), will be able to sell system capacity to a unitof Exelon.

Market Moves Higher as Traders Wait for Weather, Storage

After a lower open, natural gas futures clawed higher Tuesday astraders looked past falling physical prices to side withconstructive long-lead weather outlooks and bullish storageexpectations. The February contract gained 13 cents to close at$9.819, but the real news of the day was buying in the out-months,which enabled the 12-month strip to advance 18.1 cents to close at$6.63.
