CFTC Brings ICE Henry Hub Look-Alike Under Regulatory Authority

The Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) Friday moved to bring the Henry Financial LD1 Fixed Price contract traded on the IntercontinentalExchange, Inc. (ICE) under its regulatory authority, saying the contract “performs a significant price discovery function.” The ICE contract is a “look-alike” contract to the CME Group’s Nymex Henry Hub contract, which already is under CFTC regulation.

Futures Resume Decline as Heat Remains Mostly Elusive

After taking a one-day respite from lower prices on Thursday, August natural gas futures values moved downward again with August crude on Friday as near-term fundamentals remained weak. August natural gas closed at $3.373, down 3.5 cents from Thursday’s close and 24 cents lower than the previous week’s finish.

Most Points Near Flat in Mixed Price Movement

Excluding double-digit gains at Northeast citygates, only a few other points moved more than a dime up or down from unchanged Thursday. Friday’s low temperatures were predicted to get colder in the Midcontinent, Northeast, Midwest and Rockies, but they were often counterbalanced to some extent by forecasts of relatively moderate highs. Wednesday’s decline of 1.1 cents by March futures had scant impact in pushing the cash market either way.
