Barnett Shale Fuels Quicksilver’s Output, but Horn River in Sight

Fueled by its Barnett Shale operations, Quicksilver Resources Inc.’s total natural gas volumes jumped 40% in 2Q2009 from a year ago to 331 MMcfe/d, the producer said Monday. Service costs, meanwhile, fell by a third from a year ago to $1.05/Mcfe.

Chesapeake Curtails 7% of Output ‘At Least’ Through March

Chesapeake Energy Corp. last week curtailed 7%, or around 240 MMcfe/d, of its gross natural gas and oil production at least through March because of “extraordinarily” low wellhead prices in the Midcontinent region. Another 10% of the producer’s drilling activity through the rest of this year may be slashed “if natural gas and oil prices remain low during the next few months.”

Laredo Petroleum Picks Up Oklahoma Acreage for $185M

Linn Energy LLC has agreed to sell some Oklahoma acreage now producing about 12 MMcfe/d to Warburg Pincus-backed Laredo Petroleum Inc. for $185 million in cash. Linn Energy would retain the option to participate in future production.

Range Resources Ups Production Target by 15% Through 2007

Fort Worth-based Range Resources Corp. reported a 13% increase in oil and natural gas production in the second quarter over a year ago, to 264 MMcfe/d, the highest quarterly production in the independent’s history. The gas-weighted Range, whose recent acquisition of privately held Stroud Energy Inc. doubled its leasehold in the Barnett Shale (see NGI, May 15), said its drilling success has prompted it to raise its production target by 15% through 2007.
