B-rrrrrr! Even California Feels the Cold Snap

The weekend was expected to give some relief to California’s cold snap, although by Midwest or Eastern standards, the daytime temperatures in the 50s and 60s are downright balmy. By the standards of California — even in winter — its been downright freezing in the night time and morning hours, pushing natural gas consumption to near-record levels from San Diego to the Oregon border.

New Co-Generation Plant Eyed for Midwest

Alliant Energy Resources Inc. announced plans last week topartner with Corn Products International Inc., a major cornrefiner, to build a 750 MW “co-generation” facility near Chicago,IL. The plant, which will be called Argo Power LLC, will produceenough electricity to serve 225,000 average homes when completed inthree years.
