The mega-utility merger of Consolidated Edison (ConEd) andNortheast Utilities (NU) may be on ice. NU has told ConEd toprovide assurances by 9 a.m. Friday that it intends to go throughwith the deal or else face legal action. The only remainingregulatory hurdle for the $3.8 billion merger (excluding $3.9billion in NU debt) is a letter of approval from the Securities andExchange Commission (SEC), which is expected by mid-March.
