Storage Operators are Eager to Meet Demand Growth

Storage operators aren’t being left behind as the industryprepares for rapid gas demand growth. NGI’s new survey and map ofNorth America’s gas storage operations shows new storage fields andexpansions cropping up all over the continent, and according to anew study by the Gas Research Institute, this is only the beginningof what will be needed as gas demand grows beyond 30 Tcf/year.

In its effort to meet the challenge of building a pipeline offthe Florida coast, Buccaneer Pipeline project sponsors saidyesterday they signed Saipem Inc./European Marine Contractors Ltd.to help construct the offshore portion of the proposed pipeline.Buccaneer, which is a joint venture between Duke Energy andWilliams, would not disclose any of the financial agreementsinvolved in the deal. Saipem/EMC has already started work on theproject, a Buccaneer spokesperson said.

As FERC last week was delivering bad news to the Northeast-boundIndependence Pipeline and associated SupplyLink and MarketLinkprojects, the Commission staff was delivering a report to CapitolHill that concluded new pipeline capacity may be needed for theregion within the next three to five years. Transportation Note

During the Oct. 29-31 period, PG&E GT-Northwest will takethe Stanfield (OR) Meter Station out of service to completemodifications requested by Northwest Pipeline to meet expandingdemand of 130,000 Dth. Physical deliveries to Northwest will belimited to 200 MMcf/d through an emergency intertie. There will beno net physical receipts into PG&E GT-NW. Capacity allocationswill be based on service priority.
