Kinder Morgan to Add 6 Bcf of Storage to Markham Field in TX

Kinder Morgan said it is planning to double the size of its Markham storage field in Matagorda County, TX, to serve CenterPoint Energy Gas Services and potentially other customers. The expansion, which is expected to be completed in summer 2005, would add 6 Bcf of working gas capacity, 90 MMcf/d of injection capacity and 250 MMcf/d of deliverability.

Operator Northern Natural Gas declared force majeure after detecting a leak in the 20-inch mainline of Matagorda Offshore Pipeline System (MOPS) near the platform at Mustang Island 787. Offshore maintenance crews were responding, NNG said in a bulletin board posting late Thursday afternoon, and the Mustang Island 782, 785, 787, 803 and A-16 receipt points were to be shut in sometime during Friday’s gas day. Duration of the outage has not yet been determined, it said.

Transportation Notes

The completion date for a complete pigging of Matagorda Offshore Pipeline System has been extended through Tuesday; the project was originally scheduled to finish Sunday (see Daily GPI, Nov. 13).

Transportation Notes

As of Thursday afternoon Matagorda Offshore Pipeline System had not announced any shut-ins resulting from its pigging operation this week (see Daily GPI, Dec. 10). However, it has scheduled similar pig runs from the Mustang Island 758 platform to the onshore Tivoli (TX) Station for Jan. 6-10 and Jan. 21-24, and in each case advised shippers that shut-ins will be needed if liquids volumes are too great to be handled at Tivoli.

Transportation Notes

Due to a scheduled pig run late last week resulting in “very high liquid levels” on the Matagorda Offshore Pipeline System, scheduled volumes from MOPS into interconnects with Florida Gas Transmission, Gulf South and Tejas Gas Pipeline remained at zero Monday until further notice (see Daily GPI, Nov. 11).

Transportation Notes

A pigging operation on Matagorda Offshore Pipeline System from Wednesday evening through Friday resulted in very high liquid levels, and thus scheduled volumes from MOPS were reduced to zero for the gas days of Friday through Sunday. The action cut deliveries of about 100,000 MMBtu/d into South Texas interconnects with Florida Gas Transmission, Gulf South and Tejas Gas Pipeline, MOPS operator Northern Natural Gas said.

Transportation Notes

Matagorda Offshore Pipeline System completed a pigging operation that caused a shutdown of the pipeline last week due to excess liquids (see Daily GPI, Oct. 23). The outage affected flows of about 115 MMcf/d. MOPS delivery nominations were being accepted again Friday for intraday scheduling.

Transportation Notes

Due to operational problems with high liquids on the Matagorda Offshore Pipeline System (MOPS) offshore Texas, all production on MOPS was shut in Tuesday until further notice. The action affected 50 MMcf/d into Florida Gas Transmission at their Refugio, TX interconnect and also affected unspecified amounts in force majeure declarations at MOPS’ MidCon Texas Pipeline and Koch Gateway (Gulf South) McFaddin delivery points.

Transportation Notes

Repairs of a lateral leak (see Daily GPI, July 23) on Matagorda Offshore Pipeline System are expected to be complete by Friday, MOPS operator Northern Natural Gas said Tuesday morning. About 22,000 MMBtu/d is impacted by the shutdown of MOPS Platform 703.
