Maryland State Senator: Fracking Won’t Occur Anytime Soon

Indications from a meeting on Monday of the Marcellus Shale Safe Drilling Initiative Advisory Commission in Annapolis are that Maryland will continue to chart a cautious course for the exploitation of its unconventional energy resources, said commission member and Republican State Sen. George Edwards, who represents three counties in western Maryland.

DRBC Launches Online Surface Water Reporting

The Delaware River Basin Commission (DRBC), which governs water use for a portion of the Marcellus Shale, has launched an online reporting system for the Water Supply Charges Program (WSCP) to streamline operations. All reports beginning this year must be completed online; reporting and payment deadlines are unchanged.

The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) voted unanimously on Thursday to clarify several portions of Act 13, the state’s omnibus Marcellus Shale law, as to how it pertains to levying an unconventional natural gas drilling impact fee.

Cash Traders Digest Pipe Explosion Ramifications; Futures Grind Lower

Natural gas cash prices were mixed Tuesday as traders balanced news of a pipeline explosion in the Marcellus Shale with no indications of supportive weather developments on the horizon. While most regions saw little change in either direction average in the Midcontinent and Midwest mostly slipped, while the Northeast ranf up some significant dollar-plus gains. January futures skidded another 4.8 cents to $3.412 and February slumped 4.6 cents to $3.441. January crude oil rose 23 cents to $85.79/bbl.

NatGas Supplier Plans to Tap Into Constitution Pipeline

Constitution Pipeline Co. LLC said Friday it would work with Leatherstocking Gas Co. LLC, a New York-based natural gas supplier, to pursue agreements to design, build and operate delivery interconnects along the natural gas pipeline’s proposed 121-mile route, essentially converting it to an “open access pipeline.”

Columbia Gas Expansion to East Coast OK’d

NiSource Inc. on Friday said it is proceeding with its East Side Expansion project on its Columbia Gas Transmission system to carry Marcellus Shale gas to the East Coast and mid-Atlantic region.

Pennsylvania Township Ready to Amend Drilling Ordinance

One of the seven Pennsylvania municipalities that sued over the legality of Act 13, the state’s omnibus Marcellus Shale law, is now considering changes to its local drilling ordinance to comply with the measure, a move intended to help it collect more than half a million dollars in impact fee revenue.
