EnCana’s Deep Panuke Plan Approved By Regulators

EnCana Corp.’s revamped Deep Panuke natural gas project, which would be located about 250 kilometers offshore Halifax, received formal approval Tuesday by Nova Scotia and Canadian regulators even though the company has not yet decided whether to proceed.

St. Mary Land & Exploration Co. said it intends to sell a package of noncore oil and gas properties, located primarily in the Rockies and Midcontinent regions. A preliminary estimate indicates that the package represents approximately 74 Bcfe of proved oil and gas reserves, the company said. The sales price of the properties will be determined by a competitive bidding process. Denver-based St. Mary Land & Exploration will complete the divestiture in late December if it receives what it believes is an appropriate offer. The company also announced that it repurchased a total of about 791,000 shares of outstanding common stock in the open market at a weighted average cost of $32.82 a share.

Neptune Deepwater LNG Port Moves Closer to Reality

The Neptune Deepwater Port, the offshore liquefied natural gas (LNG) facility to be located 10 miles off the coast of Gloucester, MA, is one step closer to reality after SUEZ LNG NA LLC received all of the necessary permits from state officials in Massachusetts. The LNG terminal, which will deliver 400-750 MMcf/d of natural gas to New England markets, is expected to ramp up in 2009.

BP Exploration & Production Inc. announced a hydrocarbon discovery in an exploration well that tested its Isabela prospect in the deepwater Gulf of Mexico (GOM). The well is located on Mississippi Canyon Block 562 in 6,500 feet of water, about 150 miles southeast of New Orleans. Isabela was drilled to a total depth of 19,100 feet into Miocene era sands. “Isabela is an excellent addition to our portfolio of discoveries in the Gulf of Mexico,” said Dave Rainey, BP’s Vice President of GOM Exploration. “It will likely be tied back to our Na Kika production platform, helping to maximize the value of that infrastructure.” The well is operated by BP with a 67% working interest and is co-owned by Noble Energy Inc. with a 33% working interest. The lease was acquired at in March 1998.

PetroLogistics to Launch Open Season for Choctaw Facility

PetroLogistics Natural Gas Storage LLC will launch an open season Wednesday for 1 Bcf of firm gas storage service at its proposed 6 Bcf salt dome storage cavern, which will be located at the Choctaw storage facility in Iberville Parish, LA. The open season, which will conclude April 11, will offer contracts for up to 20 years.

EXCO Buys Anadarko Fields, Builds North LA Presence

Dallas-based EXCO Resources Inc. agreed to pay $1.6 billion cash for Houston-based Anadarko Petroleum Corp.’s Vernon and Ansley fields, located in Jackson Parish in North Louisiana, the company said late last month. The acquisition is a further articulation of the EXCO’s focus on East Texas-North Louisiana as well as Appalachia.

Anadarko, Partners Tentatively Approved for WY CBM Project

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) has given tentative approval to drill up to 2,000 natural gas wells in the Atlantic Rim Natural Gas Project in the eastern Washaki Basin, located in Carbon County, WY. Anadarko Petroleum Corp. is developing the project with Warren Resources Inc. and Double Eagle Petroleum and Mining Co.

Altamira Terminal Receives Second LNG Cargo

Terminal de LNG de Altamira, Mexico’s first operational liquefied natural gas (LNG) import terminal located near Tampico, Tamaulipas, on the country’s northeast coast, received its second LNG cargo (138,000 cubic meters) on Oct. 8 after starting commercial operations at the end of last month.
