Transportation Notes

Sonat will be installing facilities today for tie-in of theSandy Hook Line to its system on the Franklinton-Gwinville lines inMississippi, which will require the shut-in of a total of 19 metersin the Hub, Sandy Hook and Dexter fields. The work is expected totake one day but may be extended if problems are encountered. Sonatalso reported beginning maintenance at the Muldon (MS) StorageField that will continue through Oct. 2. The pipeline declared aforce majeure in connection with the project but is not surewhether injection/withdrawal restrictions will be necessary for CSScustomers.

Monterrey Line Starts Open Season

KN Energy began an open season for its a 108-mile, 24-inchMonterrey Pipeline that would connect its MidCon Texas intrastatepipeline in Starr County, TX, to Monterrey, Mexico. The open seasonbegan last week and runs through 5 p.m. CDT July 30. KN expects tostart construction of the $50 million pipeline in 1999, withcompletion projected for the second quarter of 2000. Capacity isexpected to be 275 MMcf/d, and the pipe will serve gas-fired powerplants in Monterrey, local distribution companies, large industrialconsumers as well as future market opportunities.

Utilicorp Buys Stake in Electric Line Company

Adding to its long list of utility, marketing and transportationassets, Aquila Energy parent Utilicorp United entered into astrategic partnership with Quanta Services Wednesday for $400million. Utilicorp hopes to increase its profit potential in thederegulating electric and telecommunications markets by teamingwith the Houston-based Quanta, a provider of specialized servicesfor companies in those industries.
