A FERC administrative law judge (ALJ) Friday issued an initial decision finding that former Amaranth natural gas trader Brian Hunter had manipulated the gas futures market between February and April 2006, which subsequently took a toll on physical gas contracts over which the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) has jurisdiction.

In the wake of a recent decision by a three-judge panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit upholding Maryland’s denial of a water quality certification for AES Sparrows Point liquefied natural gas (LNG) import terminal in Baltimore County, a company spokesman said it was considering several option, including petitioning for rehearing by the full court.
